Join us on Thursday the 5th of March at 3pm for a talk with Lars Harmsen and Dirk Gebhardt entitled Design Matters: How to explain mankind to man by images. Lars and Dirk will be presenting different Editorial Design projects.
Lars Harmsen is a German Grafik Designer and Publisher whose focus lies in corporate and editorial design. He has been a professor for design and typography at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences & Art since 2011. In 2018, he was Associate Professor at the American University of Sharjah. Harmsen is creative director and partner of Munich-based agency Melville Brand Design and head of Slanted Publishers. In 1996, he founded Volcano-Type, a type foundry offering more than 200 typefaces. In 2004 he launched the web blog Slanted, dedicated to typography and design, followed by the eponymous Slanted magazine in 2005. Harmsen is an author and designer of numerous books on design, typography and photography. His work has been awarded nationally and internationally.
Dirk Gebhardt is a German photographer, journalist and university lecturer. He works as a freelance photographer for international newspapers and magazines, including La Repubblica, Stern, Spiegel, Time Magazine, Die Zeit, Sunday Times, Frankfurter Rundschau, Die Welt and El Pais. Since 2011, he has been a professor for photojournalism and documentary photography at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Dortmund.
