Functional Fictions showcases the result of a three-month research journey by Fikra's first Designers-in-Residence: Adnan Arif from Sharjah, UAE and Kevin Zweerink from Virginia, USA. Delving into design research, they have used their time in the residency to explore design as a platform for exploring future and parallel worlds.

Both designers explore the local urban landscape and draw out signals to develop fictional props as structures of participation for experiential engagement and to provoke discussions about how technology and society shape our worlds.
